Trump unveils Starfleet logo…er, Space Force…and Trekkers take to Twitter | Trump Administration

As Donald Trump’s impeachment trial continued in earnest on Friday, the president boldly unveiled his new logo for the US Space Force.

The massive defense spending bill Trump signed last month created the Space Force, a new branch of the military he’s been pushing for since early 2018.

Almost immediately after the design was unveiled, people started pointing out the many similarities it bore to the logo of a certain fictional space fleet.

George Takeione of the stars of Star Trek, jumped into the conversation to suggest the Trump administration pay the casting “royalties.”

Takei also searched the first lady, who appeared to plagiarize lines directly from a speech by Michelle Obama for her own speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

Space Force, the first new military service since the Air Force was created in 1947, is part of Trump’s effort to consolidate American dominance in space.

“Space is the world’s new domain of warfare,” Trump said at a December signing ceremony at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington. “Among serious threats to our national security, American superiority in space is absolutely vital. And we are leading, but we are not leading enough, and very soon we will be leading by a lot.

Amid the brouhaha, some pointed out that the United States has been dedicated to this “live long and prosper” life for some time.

And the logo’s central feature wasn’t the only part of the design that looked… familiar.
