The US Space Force unveils its official anthem: Always Above (LISTEN)

The new military branch of the United States of America now has an official song, but does it hit the mark?

In keeping with the traditions of the United States Army, the song was written to inspire pride within the ranks of the Force and to instill national pride in the rest of the country when the song is performed.

The songs, or hymns, of each branch of the U.S. military also boast of the bravery and commitment of its individual members, and often boast of their accomplishments, although only a few are specifically mentioned.

In the US Navy song, “Anchors Aweigh”, the lyrics describe the service as steadfast in the face of the enemy, warning them to “turn timidly”:

Hold the navy at sea,
Fight our war cry;
We’ll never change our course,
Such a vicious enemy rules shy-yyy.
Deploy DTT,
The anchors weigh.
Sail to Victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!

The United States Marines anthem focuses on the fact that Marines will fight anywhere, anytime, “From the corridors of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli…in the air, on land and at sea .” The anthem even promises to protect other branches of the US military, even in heaven:

Here is health for you and for our Body
that we are proud to serve
In many conflicts we fought for life
And never lost our temper;
If the army and the navy
Always look at the scenes of Heaven;
They’ll find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

The US Army anthem is one that mentions some of its accomplishments, from Valley Forge to Patton’s tanks.

Valley Forge, Custer’s Ranks,

San Juan Hill and Patton’s Tanks,

And the army started rolling.

Tiny men, from the start,

Always fight with the heart,

And the army keeps rolling.

And the US Air Force has an anthem that makes you want to fly like a bird with its lyrics “into the wild blue out there”:

We’re off into the wild blue there,
Ride high in the sun;
Here they come zooming in to meet our thunder,
To them now, give them the gun! give them the gun!

It starts nice and peaceful, then they show the business side of their F-16s.

And the Coast Guard is committed to always protecting, to hell with the seas:

We are always ready for the call,
We place our trust in You.
Through the surf, the storm and the howling wind,
High will be our goal.

These songs, for many people and most veterans, are instantly recognizable from the first notes. Will the new United States Space Force anthem elicit the same response?

Only time will tell, because we need time to learn the song, I guess.

The name of the Space Force anthem is “Semper Supra”, which is Latin for “Always Above”, and the lyrics were written by Jamie Teachenor, a country music singer/songwriter who was, at one time given, member of the United States Air. Strength band.

Here are the lyrics to the United States Space Force anthem:

We are the mighty watchful eye,
Guardians beyond the blue,
The invisible front line,
Brave and faithful fighters.
Boldly reaching into space,
There is no limit to our sky.
Standing guard day and night,
We are the Space Force above.

Will the song instill national pride and pride within the service when heard? I guess only time will give answers to these questions. Here’s a behind-the-scenes video of the making of the anthem.
