Space Force General David Thompson is a Star Trek fan and says don’t join if you want to go to space

The second-in-command of the newly created Space Force has admitted he’s a Star Trek fan, but says he didn’t play the role to fulfill a dream of going to space and no one else. no one else should.

General David Thompson – who helps Commander and Chief of Space Operations General Raymond train and properly equip members to conduct operations from 134 locations around the world – has revealed his love of sci-fi entertainment after social media users mocked President Trump last month for revealing a logo that looked a lot like the TV show.

When asked if he had a favorite sci-fi movie that inspired him, he replied, “The problem is choosing between them. I’ve always loved Star Trek and absolutely loved the most recent reboot. I think they captured the essence of those old characters in a new and fresh way.

“I’ve always been a Star Trek fan, although I can’t tell you that’s why I joined the Air Force, to go into space. I didn’t. .

Gen. David Thompson says budding astronauts shouldn’t apply to Space Force. “This opportunity to be an astronaut in the Space Force today is almost nil”

Even original Star Trek actor George Takei noticed the possible inspiration, tweeting in January, “nothing is more sacred” alongside the two logos and joking, “Ahem.” We expect royalties.”

Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu in the original Star Trek TV series and is a frequent critic of Trump, wrote in a later tweet: “I feel like Melania must have had a hand in copyi – I wanna say, conceive it.”

The reference to Melania Trump was a speech the first lady gave at the Republican National Convention in the summer of 2016.

Observers later noted that Melania Trump’s speech bore many similarities to remarks made by Michelle Obama during her address to the Democratic National Committee in Denver in 2008.

Many social media users claimed that Trump was inspired by fictional depictions of space exploration.

He explained: “One of the main reasons for the creation of the Space Force is the threat we face with Russia and China in space.

Thompson and the force will take care of missile warning satellites, GPS satellites, military communications satellites, in a network that would track these objects around the Earth every day.

The Space Force will also have a suite of ground sensors, hiring 26,000 people with an annual budget of $12 billion.

But he cautioned budding astronauts need not apply.

“That opportunity to be an astronaut in the Space Force today is almost nil.” The best thing to do if you want to be an astronaut is to go talk to NASA,” he said. “But the rest of the world is moving in the direction of the Space Force. We’re talking about remotely piloted aircraft, drones, artificial intelligence, vehicles that operate by remote control or autonomous control – that’s Space Force.

Trump has been regularly mocked since he announced the Force in June 2018.

Even the lack of a cosmic theme in the camouflage uniforms has raised eyebrows on social media.

“How many trees do you expect to find in space? author James Felton tweeted last month, prompting one Twitter user to respond with a Star Wars reference: “Come on, Jim. You know how hard it is to defeat the Ewoks in battle.

But Thompson says discussions began before the Trump administration.

Thompson said in 2014 that the need to address threats in space had begun, but talks had progressed in 2018.

“It was actually an initiative of all the national leaders….” Thompson explained. “So yeah, absolutely, President Trump had that vision, but he had a lot of input from both sides.

General Thompson explained the choice of uniform design: “It has to be classic. We’re not talking about spandex and capes. We’re talking about a good, stylish wardrobe that reflects who we are as members of the United States military.

Thompson added that the look may change as they establish their own identity.

“Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are all different. We’re not starting from zero in terms of culture,” Thompson told Gen Medium.

“We want to ask young enlisted members who are just joining a career what they want the uniform to look like. We already have uniforms being designed; obviously, they are going to look like military uniforms.
